Welcome to The Sherwood Science website

Science

Children are naturally curious and interested in finding out about the world around them. Science is a way of looking at the world, of making sense of what we observe and answering the questions that arise from those observations.
The process of science involves developing concepts and skills and gaining knowledge. At The Sherwood we encourage the children to participate in an active and investigative way in order to help them ask questions, make predictions, discuss their ideas, make observations, experiment, interpret information and reach conclusions.
Most of our science work takes place within cross-curricular topics, which last for half a term. A scheme of work has been developed to ensure coverage of the National Curriculum. At key stages 1 & 2, the Merton Continuity Document is followed with science being incorporated in the area of Knowledge & Understanding of the World.
By providing a stimulating and challenging environment we are endeavouring to help the children develop scientific skills and concepts and knowledge in an interactive manner.

This website aims to provide a scaffold for childrens learning and to offer opportunities for them to extend their learning experiences.
